The Tractor Stool by Bassam Fellows, designed by architect Craig Bassam and debuted at the Milan Furniture Fair in 2003, is a widely recognised icon of contemporary organic modernism. The design is a luxurious reimagining of a prosaic workman's footstool. Its sculptural silhouette features a deeply contoured seat directly influenced by the precise, ergonomic shape of a vintage Swiss metal tractor seat. The stool represents a fluid intersection of industrial precision and hand craftsmanship. The complex, ergonomic seat curves are initially roughed out using high-precision CNC multi-axis carving machines. They are then meticulously hand-shaped and hand-finished by expert cabinetmakers in Northern Italy and Pennsylvania using techniques derived from traditional shoe-last making. Because each stool is carved from single blocks of sustainably harvested timber, every piece exhibits its own distinct wood grain variations and matures elegantly over time. The stool we have on offer is in Walnut.
