About Jardan

Jardan began in 1987 as a traditional upholstery workshop in Melbourne. In 1997 brothers Nick and Michael Garnham and their father Barry acquired the company when it entered bankruptcy. They had no background in furniture manufacturing, and inherited a team of eight. Nick began designing himself when the original designer left five years later, and his wife Renee Brown later joined as Creative Director.

While countless Australian furniture makers moved production overseas, Jardan doubled down on Melbourne craftsmanship, establishing the in-house Jardan Lab and a made-to-order process. By 2010 it employed 80 craftspeople, and today more than 200, with showrooms across Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and Byron Bay. In 2012-13 it became Australia's first certified carbon-neutral furniture manufacturer under the National Carbon Offset Standard, and over 75 per cent of its materials are sourced locally.

The name plays on 'jardin', the French and Spanish for garden, and the signature look is soft curves, plush surfaces and warm natural materials. Pieces like the modular Lemmy sofa and the sculptural Lola armchair have featured in Vogue Living, Architectural Digest Australia and Belle.
