About B&B Italia

Piero Ambrogio Busnelli founded B&B Italia in 1966. It began as C&B, a joint venture with Cesare Cassina, and when Cassina offered to buy him out, Busnelli refused and bought Cassina's stake in 1973 instead, rebranding as B&B Italia. The company was among the first to bring cold-moulded polyurethane foam to furniture manufacturing, which enabled entirely new forms and levels of comfort in sofas and chairs.

Its collaborators read like a who's who of design: Antonio Citterio, Patricia Urquiola, Mario Bellini, Gaetano Pesce, Zaha Hadid and Naoto Fukasawa among them. Bellini's Le Bambole collection won the Compasso d'Oro in 1979, and Pesce's Up series, particularly the Up5 'Big Mama' chair with its ottoman, became a pop culture icon. In 1989 B&B Italia received the first Compasso d'Oro ever awarded to a manufacturing company. Even its headquarters makes a statement: in 1972 it commissioned Renzo Piano and Richard Rogers to design a steel-framed building north of Milan, with the structure on the outside where everyone can see it.

Today the company operates across Home, Contract and Outdoor divisions, with products sold in 80 countries.
