The Alias 602 Seconda Armchair is a landmark of Postmodern industrial design, created by Swiss architect Mario Botta in 1982 for the Italian furniture brand Alias. Known for its stark, rational geometry, the chair was Botta’s structural answer to the colorful, expressive design language of the contemporaneous Memphis movement. Today, it is recognized as a modern classic and resides in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York. The chair's design is built on a foundational grid of straight lines, right angles, and cylindrical components. The primary seat element is a contoured piece of lacquered perforated sheet steel. The structural body and armrests are crafted from welded, powder-coated or lacquered steel tubes. The distinctive back support consists of two black polyurethane cylindrical rollers, providing minimal yet ergonomic movement and comfort.
