Vintage LC3 Armchair Attributed to Cassina (4 available)
The Vintage LC3 Armchair, formerly known as the 3 Fauteuil Grand Confort, grand modèle, is a milestone of modern design created in 1928 by Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret, and Charlotte Perriand. This armchair is highly sought after by collectors for its iconic "cushions in a cage" architectural structure, contrasting a rigid external steel frame with soft, deep upholstery. The LC3 is wider and lower than its sibling, the LC2. It features thick, loose cushions that sit neatly inside a polished chrome or painted tubular steel framework. True vintage examples (often from the 1960s to the 1980s) show a natural, elegant patina on the leather, with characteristic soft creasing and a beautiful ageing profile that newer models lack.
Provenance and authenticity: These chairs come from the office of a Sydney architect, who advises that they were purchased as originals in the 1980s. No invoice is available, and we could find no maker’s mark or stamp on the frames. HFOC has not independently verified their authenticity or manufacturer; they are offered as vintage LC3-style armchairs, attributed to Cassina only on the owner’s advice. Buyers are welcome to inspect them by appointment and to obtain their own opinion before purchase.
